Songs for Social Change-2019

The winner of the Songs for Social Change contest for 2019 is Mary Lou Fulton, and her prize winning song is “Not Going Back”

Mary Lou Fulton, a singer-songwriter and former journalist, has been chosen as the winner of RAWA’s Songs for Social Change Contest of 2019.  Her song “Not Going Back (I Don’t Think So)” is a social-justice anthem that challenges the idea that the nation’s problems would be solved by going back to the “good old days” that weren’t so good for women, immigrants like Fulton’s mother and many others whose lives are better today because of social progress. 

Jason Baker’s finalist song is “Something That’s Never Been Done Before”

Jason Baker is a songwriter & performer from Burlington, Vermont. Jason started writing songs in 2017, and performing in 2018, releasing his debut, “America Dreams”. On his new album, “Common Man Blues”, Jason continues to write songs influenced by the deep roots of old-time & acoustic music, yet modern in lyrical perspective.

Shawn’s finalist song is “Power to the Peaceful”

Shawn Gallaway is an award winning singer/songwriter, visual artist, author, workshop facilitator and energetic healer. He has traveled the world over sharing his message of “Healing and Transformation through the Arts”. His “I Choose Love” (a finalist in last year’s contest)  and online course (a collection of videos, songs, artwork, meditations and processes) continue to inspire and educate people of all ages on how to awaken their hearts and find their art.

Lead singer/songwriter, Rebecca Lang Fiorentino delivers original and memorable songs that feature simple, heartfelt lyrics on life and love, which at times capture a classic folk sensibility. When not anchoring songs with her guitar, Rebecca picks up her violin and provides another emotional voice to the arrangement. Joining Rebecca are Mike McLane on upright bass and Harry Gambrill on dobro, banjo, mandolin and harmony. Her debut album, Only Be You came out in 2017 and their second album will be out in the Winter of 2020. They play throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, from it’s home base in the Delaware Valley at venues ranging from festivals to radio stations and coffee-houses.

Kelea (aka Kelly Gardner) is a versatile West Australian music artist. She is an acoustic singer/songwriter who plays piano whilst harmonising and looping. She is also an emerging electro-pop artist and formidable session rock vocalist. All whilst residing in the country.

Las Vegas singer-songwriter Abigayle Rose has brought her authentic voice to Nashville. Trained in classical and flamenco guitar techniques at the Las Vegas Academy, she has a deep love for all flavors of music. Currently, Abigayle is a songwriting major at Belmont University. She performs her original music throughout Nashville where people continue to fall in love with her clever lyric and catchy melodies.

Nicholas Jarrell Hasty, better known by the artist name Soul Glitch, is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer,  producer and controllerist.  Based in Northern California, Soul Glitch creates Epic Soultronica (a dynamic fusion of indietronica,   electro-pop and synth-pop genres), seamlessly integrating infectious beats with messages of personal and social empowerment.   In Hasty’s words, “Soul Glitch is about tuning in to our higher selves and finding meaningful purpose in the interdependency of humanity and all living things.”

His finalist entry is “All That Matters is Love”

Wayne Willingham, long retired from music, has returned. Redesigned as a singer-songwriter, two albums so far, with more to come. The voice is still there – perhaps clearer and more expressive. The hands are back – and then some.
